Sorry I haven’t posted on here for a while. I’ve been focused on Linkedin and trying to add a weekly update about what I’m up to. Here’s the latest – Its been a tricky week. I was hoping to be crossing the finish line for the edit of our film ‘The Fastest Bicycle’ but last Friday editor James Watson called to tell me that the main drive had failed. I can clearly recall the sound it made, which he played down the phone. It didn’t sound well. Yes we have back ups but its a set back time wise. The film has been seven years in the making and locking it is a big moment, so mentally it has been difficult to switch lanes, even though I have a very long to do list for other endeavours that all need attention. I once did a business workshop that suggested I’m a ‘completer finisher’, I expect if you are reading this you may have done something similar. The only other one I can remember is ‘Plant’ but cant remember what character type that is. Do let me know if you know… Anyway, although I dont want to be pigeonholed, like all these things, I guess there’s an element of truth in it and there’s no denying the satisfaction of completing a task. But doesn’t everyone feel that way? Whilst I’m looking forward to releasing ‘The Fastest Bicycle’ I’m also looking forward to exploring new pastures but dont quite feel I can fully explore them before its done. So anyway, why the picture of a newt? At times like this it certainly feels good to go and stare at some newts. In lockdown I dug a garden pond. Since then its been a constant source of surprise and delight, tempered by a source of guilt when I’ve let it out of control. This time of year is probably the most exciting, when out of nowhere, twenty or thirty newts rock up with the intention of making babies. At least thats what I think they’re doing. And that’s the delight right there in a way. It’s beyond my control. Although I dug the hole in the first place, I’ve had little say in what’s happened since. If there’s a moral to the story I guess its that yes sometimes, often even, things are beyond your control. But sometimes its a blessing in disguise and the answer, if you have the option, might lie in swapping an unhappy accident for a happy one. Enjoy the sunshine 🙂 If you would like to follow me on Linkedin, you should be able to find me here https://www.linkedin.com/in/michael-clifford-5b87a9a/
